COMMUNITY GROUPS
WHAT IS A COMMUNITY?
A community is a small group that meets throughout the week in homes, the church campus, or any location that is convenient. In a community, people come together to deepen their relationship with God and with one another.
"Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Christ.” Acts 5:42
Communities at Crossroads have three essential elements:
- A relational environment
- A biblical foundation
- An intentional process
WHY JOIN A COMMUNITY?
If you’ve ever listened to a sermon and thought, "But what about...?" or "I don’t understand," then a community is for you! In a community, you can ask questions, participate in a discussion of the Bible, and hear others share insights of the truth you are trying to grasp.
Most people who have been a part of a community say the greatest benefit is the close friendships that develop. In a community you’ll discover that your needs and problems are not unique.
Over fifty times in the New Testament the phrase "one another" is used to describe our relationship to other believers.
We are commanded to:
- Love one another.
- Accept one another.
- Encourage one another.
- Pray for one another.
- Serve one another.
The only way we can obey these commands is in a community! God never meant for us to go it alone. We really do need each other.
While most groups are sermon-based, Crossroads has a variety of groups including Marriage, Financial Peace University, Christian Basics and many more.
THE BENEFITS OF BEING IN A COMMUNITY
- A chance to know others and to be known.
- A chance to grow in your knowledge of God and the Bible.
- A place to experience God’s compassion and grace.
- A group to celebrate life with (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.).
- A group to support you and your family when you are in crisis.
- A place to obey and practice the “one another” commands of the Bible.
"God's great desire is that we be a community, that we be a family that loves each other... I want you to be able to say, "Crossroads is my home!" – Chuck Booher, January 2010
Thank you for your interest in being a part of a Community Group at Crossroads Church! To find a group that meets your needs make sure to participate in our next Community Connection.
