Ooooh…Aaaah…

Anyone have one of these?  That high school ring that meant so much to you back in high school.  For the boys, this was to be worn by all of your girlfriends (assuming you would get one) and for the girls, this was irrefutable proof that he was your man (boy).

Did anyone wear these all the way through high school? Did anyone wear these to college?  Do any of you wear them now?  If you’re like me, the answer is “no!”  This piece of $300 bling has sat in a box since 1995 when I stopped wearing it.

I have a couple of options here…

A)  Let it continue to sit in a box
B)  Wear it… (not going to happen)
C)  Save it for my kids (this is a tough one for all of you pack rats)
D)  Turn gold into cash and slap that cash on my debt snowball

That’s right – the answer for me is “D”

Receive & Run!

Posted February 18th, 2010 by Blake

Cheetah - run! It’s that time again when some will pay and some will receive – that’s right, it’s tax season!

You can always tell the people that are receiving a refund; they walk with a slight spring in their step as they make their way to the bank to deposit the check.  All the while those who owe are reluctantly going to the post office to file their extensions – willing to pay the interest and fees to save up for the tax bill.

For those of us who are dumping debt with gazelle intensity, refunds can be very tempting.  You’re tired, worn out and looking for a break as you have been running hard to gain distance between you and the cheetah.  You think about that vacation you could take, the hobby you could invest in or the electronics you could purchase.  Don’t give into the temptation – don’t stop running!  Take that refund and add it to your debt snowball.  Take the opportunity to gain more distance between you and those that are willing to do anything to sabotage your sprint towards financial peace.

Dave Ramsey’s Pickup Lines 2010

Dave Ramsey Pickup Lines 2010
You know ‘em, and you love ‘em (well, you know ‘em, anyway). Here is a fresh crop of Dave Ramsey pickup lines for Valentine’s Day. Use at your own risk!

Is your credit score bad? Because you look like a 10 to me!

I’m thinking of renaming the “fun money” category in my budget. What’s your name?

Who needs Dave Ramsey? For me, the Fox show is right here!

Glad I’ve got health insurance. I need to see a doctor now that you’ve made my knees weak.

I won’t ask to borrow your phone number, since borrowing is stupid. Will you just give it to me instead?

My dating life is in a recession. Will you bail me out?

If I had a dollar for every time I thought about you, I’d be in a higher tax bracket.

I want to start my baby emergency fund. First thing I need is you, baby.

The ladies here would agree … I’ve taken the place of the paid-off mortgage as the status symbol of choice.

My Plasectomy

Posted February 11th, 2010 by Blake

My wife and I have struggled with this “issue” for some time.  We listened to the DR (Dave Ramsey) and he told us about a noninvasive procedure that would change our lives forever – a Plasectomy.  With much research, family discussion and prayer we decided to go through with the procedure.

My pulse raced with each cut of the scissors.  What was being cut would never be able to be put back together.

I’ve got to admit it was painful at first, but now I feel better than ever.  Make the right decision for you and your family – get a Plasectomy.

My Precious

For me, the Costco American Express is the ultimate credit card.  It gives me 2% cash back on all purchases, while my Executive Costco Membership gives me 2% cash back on all Costco purchases – that’s a combined 4% savings: a.k.a the 1,2 punch!  Since Costco is my modern day Toys R Us, you can see how this card assisted me in being prudent while buying things I didn’t need, at a savings of  4%:)

In an effort to get Gazelle intense, my Costco American Express is going to meet its demise tonight.  As Dave Ramsey has said and I paraphrase – reward points don’t make you wealthy.  Using credit cards for the purposes of receiving rewards is Russian roulette – eventually there will be an emergency and instead of paying off your credit card at the end of the month, the charge will be financed over time placing you in debt and forcing you to pay finance charges.

Join me in getting out your scissors and cutting up your precious credit cards with all of their sexy rewards.

Transparency

Posted February 8th, 2010 by Amanda

So, I knew this day would come total complete transparency.  I haven’t completely wanted to share the crazy things I have done to save money and make a few extra bucks. But, it’s important to know how gazelle intense we are! You can do this!

Pray, pray for wisdom. Pray for God to open doors. Use your natural gifts and talents. Pray, pray and pray some more.

“When life gets to hard to stand, kneel!”

  • Bought storage units and sold them at garage sale (a lot of work)
  • Turned the heat down
  • Turned the air up
  • Sold ALL kinds of stuff on ebay (everything from collections to clothes)
  • I do my hair at home now. It’s brown and NOT blonde for now.
  • I haven’t had a hair cut in almost a year.
  • Give yourself a pedicure. Only get one on my birthday and when I pay a card off!
  • Turned off our home phone.
  • Took my high end clothes and bags to consignment stores
  • Held many garage sales
  • Only go to the movies 3 or 4 times a year
  • Learned to cook food my family actually likes
  • Took on some side administration work
  • Started a side business with VERY little start up costs
  • Cut our own grass
  • Did water the grass as much-we’re conserving right?!
  • Sold books
  • Took my vacation time and worked at a trade show for a family members business.
  • Take our lunches
  • Cancelled the gym membership
  • Pared down our cell phone usage
  • Sold jewelry
  • We moved into a cheaper-much cheaper place to live (until God blessed us with our house)
  • My husband did some side work for a cabinet company when they were busy.
  • Recycled plastic bottles
  • Raided the piggy banks and make an extra payment on a credit card!
  • Took tax return money to pay off debt
  • Done some pet sitting
  • Sold DVD’s and CD’s
  • Make coffee at home
  • Go on coffee dates rather than dinner dates
  • Raised our insurance deductable
  • Wash my car at home

What have you done?
