Today was our first full day of work and play. We have been blessed with lack of sickness in our group. This morning we headed out to Ricky and Tracie’s church. We made breakfast for approximately 80 kids. Most of these children will go to school with no breakfast and will not eat until lunch. The kids came in and before they ate they taught us some of the Spanish worship songs with the hand motions. What a fun time we had with them. Afterwards we got ready for the afternoon VBS then we went to town for lunch where we experienced a true Peruvian style delicacy.
Lunch here is the Peruvian’s biggest meal. We had the opportunity to go to a typical Peruvian restaurant with Ricky and Tracie and the rest of their long term mission’s team. Lunch consisted of a three course meal, each filling in itself! Many members of our team went out of their box to try alpaca which to our surprise was delicious! Then the surprise meal came out…guinea pig! Each and every one of us tried a piece…
Leaving lunch to head back to the church, we were on our own and had to walk…304 steep stairs and several narrow gravel hand paved roads to share with crazy taxi drivers! After many breaks, we made it! This was when our VBS began. We had 100 children show up for more songs, a puppet show and Bible lesson, along with a craft, snacks and games. We were also able to hand out the Crossroads VBS tshirts which they were extremely excited to receive.
After a day of fun, shopping (for the girls) and interesting meals, it was a great and memorable day. We all can’t wait to see what God has in store for us tomorrow! Hablamos mañana!
