Study of Communication
- There are problems with communication….
- The Process of communication is complex and complicated
- The Problem of Static
Sermon on the Mount is the most perfect speech ever given . . .
The thesis is clear: The authority for a new life is in Jesus
Matthew 7:28-29 When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching; 29 for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
Matthew 7:24-29
24 Words of Mine: Authority-does Jesus have credibility?
Matthew 16:15 John 12:46-50
24-25 What Jesus teaches works!
Matthew 7:24-25
Renee Descartes: The first of two truths and most important of these facts to Descartes are that we truly exist and God truly exists. The next is that God is perfect and good.
Wise because His teachings work — they are the rock: solid
Sadly, many active Church attendees are not fining this
Barna: 32% of active Church attendees never experienced God
Life after God by Douglas Copeland:
Barna:
- The point: Christianity has not been tried and found wanting, but not tried at all.
- If we do, Jesus says it will make all the difference.
- If we do—then we experience God. We know Him.
- If we do—then we see transformation in society.
We need to be transformed!
2 Corinthians 3:17-18 Romans 12:1-2
26-27 Are we ready to Act?
Matthew 7:26-27
SERMON APPLICATION:
- Considering the process of communication, how would you rate your current level of communication, in both the sending, and the receiving end of it?
- The Sermon on the Mount is the most perfect speech ever given. With that in mind, and re-reading Matthew 7:24-29, what do you believe Jesus is specifically calling for you to change, do, or act upon within your life?
- Often times before a person decides to invest in something, he or she wants to know if it works, and what Jesus teaches works. In what ways have you personally seen and/or experienced the teachings of Jesus working within your own life? Be specific
- Pastor Chuck presented you earlier with some things that a couple people have concluded. Looking at them below, what is your reaction to each one, and what could you be doing to assure you not becoming a statistic within the later one?
- Renee Descartes, we truly exist and God truly exists, and that God is perfect and good.
- Barna: 32% of active Church attendees never experience God, and that most active church attendees are living the same as those who do not attend. In a list of 70 actions, came out only significantly different in 6!
- When thinking about the main point, that: Christianity has not been tried and found wanting, but not tried at all. That, if we do, Jesus says it will make all the difference. If we do—then we experience God. We know Him. If we do—then we see transformation in society. What is your reaction to this point, and what/if anything is it saying to you personally to do?
- Romans 12:1-2 tells us that we are to be transformed. How has your life been transformed by the power and grace of Jesus Christ? What could you be doing to assure even further transformation through Him?
- Most of you have heard, "Why put off to tomorrow what you could do today" and "there is no time like the present". Thinking about these two cliché's and Matthew 7:26-27, are you ready to act, and if not, what is holding you back and preventing you from acting?
