SUNDAY REVIEW: 40 and Realizing the Promise

KICKING IT OFF: 1) How much of the Olympics did you watch this year? What was your favorite moment? 2) How do you see the church growing in new ways as we do the Story together as a church?

DISCUSSION:

  1. What point of Pastor Chuck's message impacted you the most? Read Isaiah 40:1-2 and Zechariah 1:12-17. What do these passages say about God's heart for Jerusalem and His people? Share a time when you experienced God's comfort in your life.
  2. Read Isaiah 30:18 and Romans 2:4-8. What attributes of God do you see mentioned in these passages? How do you think each attribute affects how God relates to us? How do our deeds affect our intimacy with God?

INTENTIONAL INTIMACY
Read Isaiah 40:3-8 & Mark 11:1-10. What similarities do you see in these passages? How much time do you spend preparing yourself to go before God? Share with the group your preparation practices as you anticipate time with God.

TOTAL SURRENDER
Read Isaiah 40:28-31. How does knowing God more intimately help make it easier to surrender your time, talents and treasure to Him?

EXPERIENCE MORE
When you think of doing things outside of your comfort zone in service to God (missions trip or Adopt-a-Block), how anxious do you get? Read Isaiah 40:12-28 together and consider how mighty our God is! Share about a time when your faith grew stronger because you took a risk for God.

LOVE LIKE JESUS LOVES
How is it an expression of love to share your faith with others? What is the biggest barrier keeping you from sharing more openly? How can your group support you and hold you accountable in this area?
